The Soroptimist Live Your Dream Award Winner : Melanie and SFC Winner: Amy
The Soroptimist Live Your Dream Awards (formerly the Women’s Opportunity Awards) assists women who provide the primary source of financial support for their families by giving them the resources they need to improve their education, skills and employment prospects. Many of these women have overcome enormous obstacles including poverty, domestic violence and/or drug and alcohol abuse. Live Your Dream Awards recipients may use the cash award to offset any costs associated with their efforts to attain higher education, such as books, childcare, tuition and transportation.
The Soroptimist International Club of Guelph recognized their 2015 Live Your Dream Award Winner - Melanie - at their annual Awards Dinner held in early April. The recipient, a single mother of 3 young girls is currently attending Conestoga College, enrolled in the Business Administration Management Advanced Diplomas program, was presented with a $1,000 cash award to assist her with her studies. At the awards dinner, Melanie also learned that she was selected as the Eastern Canada Region Live Your Dream Award recipient and was presented with a cash award of $5,000 US at the Eastern Canada Region Spring Conference held in Guelph in May 2015.
Congratulations Melanie and we wish you all the best in your future endeavours.

Run For The Cure - Sunday, 5th October 2014
Our team “Soroptimists of Guelph” completed a lovely 5km
walk/run at the annual Guelph "Run For The Cure" event downtown. Our
team was 14-strong, including 6 Soroptimists (Joanna, Nancy, Diane,
Aline, Jennifer, Terrie) plus family members. The weather was rather
chilly and threatened rain at the beginning, but ended up being just
fine for a lovely walk / run. There were loads of happy people downtown
for this event, all dressed up in pink and quite creative outfits,
including lots of children and even dogs in pink outfits or with hair
died pink. Along the way, several families got into the act and
decorated their homes with balloons, streamers and pink ribbon signs,
and cheered on the participants passing by. All in all, it was a lovely
community event. Our team had a very nice outing and lovely chats along
the way.
Here is a photo of our whole team, plus a closeup of our t-shirt printed with our team name.
"Quick
story that amused me. We were handing out Lunafest postcards along the
way. I laughed out loud when Jennifer greeted Mayor Karen Farbridge
and immediately offered her a Lunafest postcard, only for Karen to
reveal that she already had one in her other hand! Well done, ladies!!!"
